The BD FACSCalibur™ platform offers a unique modular approach to flow cytometry and allows users to perform cell analysis in an innovative single bench-top system. Flow cytometry involves the analysis of the fluorescence and light scatter properties of single particles (e.g. cells, nuclei, chromosomes) during their passage within a narrow, precisely defined liquid stream. It allows simultaneous multiparametric analysis of the physical and/or chemical characteristics of single cells flowing through an optical and/or electronic detection apparatus.
Flow cytometry has evolved rapidly to incorporate the use of multiple fluorochromes to effectively identify and isolate subset populations in a single sample. The BD FACSCalibur flow cytometer is designed with multicolor application support; dual-laser design consists of two lasers, an air-cooled argon laser and a red diode laser. The flow cytometer provides flexibility to support a wide variety of research and clinical applications, as outine cell analysis, assay development, verification, and identification of cellular populations of interest.
